Egypt's currency unit is called Egyptian Pound (abbr. EGP or L.E.) and it is divided into 100 piaster (abbr. PT). In circulation there are 5, 10 and 25 piaster coins as well as 1 pound coins. The banknotes have 25 and 50 piaster as well as 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 pounds. You can change cash in banks, hotels and exchanges called Serafa. The rates are always listed and may slightly vary between different exchange offices. Please do not accept exchange offers from strangers. Here you can find current exchange rates. Most restaurants, hotels, travel agencies and shops accept credit cards. The most popular are Visa (also Visa Electron) and Master Card but many others are accepted, e.g., American Express and Diners Club. Cash dispensers (ATMs) accept major credit cards and are easily accessible in many places.
PhonesThe mobile phone network covers almost 100 percent of Egypt. Egypt's GSM operators use 900/1800 network type.
